The student wrote in a letter published Monday on the front page of the university newspaper that she and friends had fashioned a noose as they played with a rope, and she had accidentally left it in the library.

She said the prank did not have any racist intent and said she was distraught at the offense it caused. She termed it a “stupid mistake.”

Looks like UCSD is going through a very challenging time in regards to campus relationships with students from cross cultural backgrounds. A lot of the tension students are dealing with has came from an event called the “Compton Cookout.”

Here are two interesting facts about UCSD:

  • There are about 2% Black Students on Campus
  • Most Black Students that get accepted to UCSD chose to go to other California schools such as Berkeley if accepted.
